What’s a Trying Yute? Ft. @RaeganDaley
What’s a Trying Yute?
Tried in their professional pursuits
Failed before and will fail again
Doing the do; somehow.
Felt discouraged before
Make shit. Creators.
A Trying Yute is an email mentorship series that picks on the experiences of mentors from multiple fields that spans through the various stages of their life and milestones. They all tried before. They started somewhere. You can too!
My wish for the email Mentorship series? To stand on the shoulders of giants and learn from them.

Well, my name is Raegan Daley. I'm a PR consultant, marketer, entrepreneur and writer! I work with overseas clients to elevate their PR initiatives and I work with a local group of clients in western Jamaica, by monitoring their online presence and writing compelling captions for their social media.
I started my very own personal brand, "The Caption Girl" which focuses on helping small businesses and young professionals enhance their personal brand.
I attended the number one college in Florida - The University of Florida, in Gainesville receiving my Bachelor of Science in Public Relations from the College of Journalism and Communications. Since then, I've worked with groups ranging from Holiday Inn to Sunset at the Palms in Negril to boost their social presence. I'm currently undertaking my Masters at FIU - the which has one of the most elite business programs in the nation!
Overall, I think the best is yet to come. How do you handle “Badmind” from others?
This is a great one! (Ha-ha)
Elevate. Simply rise above.
You cannot control how people feel about you, but you CAN control how you react.
I am perfectly fine with constructive criticism, but there is no use in being distracted by noise that wont assist you, or make you a better leader or business professional. What advice would you give for any student/youth that wants to enter your career field? What advice should they ignore?
Public Relations and Marketing is a budding field for youth today! I would say become an AVID reader. Learn as much as you can and contribute to this field by sharing your knowledge.
There's something about adding value that makes or breaks you in PR. You have to provide reason for people to want to work with you! The reason stems far beyond professional qualifications. It's the WHY factor. Why should people listen to you? So, by adding value to self by diving into the resources around you is the #1 piece of advice I could give to an aspiring PR / marketing professional.
The other would be the importance of personal branding. Being who you say you are and showing up as such! How has failure, or apparent failure set you up for success?
Too many times I've fallen short of a goal and wondered, "is this even a practical goal to begin with?"
The answer always ends up being yes Raegan, this is practical for more reasons than one.
It's usually that despite the failure, MORE and MORE signs point to WHY this is what I should be doing. So, I learn from all the shortcomings, and failures and apply the learnings as I go along. I had always wanted to move back to Jamaica, but so many factors were working against me. However, the signs never stopped pointing home. Here I am today! (This is the short version, of a very long story)When you feel overwhelmed, or unmotivated, what do you do?
Go back to my vision board! This year I wasn't feeling creatively compelled to make one with pictures and scraps as I did for 2019, BUT I surely documented what I needed from this year, 2020.
I remind myself of purpose and read quotes that push me to be better.
Every morning I follow this mantra as well:
1. One thing you are looking forward to
2. Five people in your life you are thankful for
3. One accomplishment you are proud of from yesterday
4. One thing you like about the way you look
5. Your intention for the day
FIVE DEEP BREATHS
This has REALLY HELPED.You were invited to a dinner party and you could invite five (5) guests (Dead or alive, real or fictional), who would you invite and why?
Oh delightful!!
Let's see
1. Kid Cudi - Since he made that song "Pursuit of Happiness" I've been obsessed with the concept of being grateful everyday! He's a HUGE inspiration to me and though he suffers with anxiety and depression finds ways to inspire a large group of people. I love that! I think he would add value to the dinner conversations.
2. Kobe Bryant- I had no IDEA what the Mamba Mentality was all about until Kobe passed. I realize why going after everything with all you have, NOW, is imperative, and though Kobe is no longer with the world, I'd want to bring him back to discuss this Mamba Mentality more.
3. Rihanna - I simply love her and all she stands for. I think her presence would make me smile. I simply want to meet her and congratulate her on all her successes.
4. My grandma Campbell - I miss her! She was the most spirited woman. She loved praying and she was so peaceful. I would love to be able to spend more time with her.
5. Popcaan (Andre Sutherland)- I think his jovial ways would make this an interesting dinner! I've met him once before so, it would be a great way to reconnect! What are one to three books that have greatly influenced your life?
Gabriel Union's - We're Going to Need More Wine
Vybz Kartel's - The Voice of the Jamaican GhettoWhat advice would you give your 15 year old self right now?
BELIEVE IN YOUR CREATIVITY - SO many people do not even have the COURAGE to believe in themselves. So, how can you possibly take advice from them? Never give into mediocrity and continue being amazing!Alot of people assume being successful means you have a lot of money but we know money management is KEY. What money management advice would you give to someone reading this?
Well, here's one I live by, don't spend what you wont be making back 2 times over. THAT will have you second guessing every purchase, I'm sure! But, ultimately you will begin to weigh out needs vs. wants more intensely. How did you find your passion? Tell us that story
It probably started as early as me being in the crib. My parents shared a space, a one bedroom flat and I was in the crib adjacent to their bed and got up one night, and according to their recollection, "started preaching!"
I wasn't more than 6 months old and I blabbered whatever I had to say for about 10 minutes with conviction and went back to sleep!
Now, I've always had a lot to say and a lot to share and it showed in my writing as I grew older. I was a STORYTELLER.
Then, once I found out the key to good marketing was a GREAT story that inspired others to act. PHEW! Let's just say that was the very moment I knew my word were GEMS.
Ever since then I've made a livelihood from sharing experiences and helping other brands tell their cool stories, every day.We all talk about “links” run the country. What are your thoughts on that?
I'd say this has A LOT of truth to it. But, this is because I believe in the power of networking. Networking opens doors that would have otherwise been closed. Hence, I try to show up to everything; whether a small meeting, or a huge conference. Once I am inspired to be there, I go with true intent and purpose to meet at least one person!
You never know who that person is, how they may want to help you or who they could introduce you to.
I do not believe that using "links" for ill-purpose is ethical and is a true testament to one's character.
